Between Geena (Maya Lynne Robinson), DJ’s wife, and Darlene, the show still features wise women with acerbic wit and zero tolerance for idiocy. Yes, in some ways, Roseanne will never be replaced. But in other ways, she already has been.

Having played Darlene (well, with a 20-year gap) for 30 years, it’s almost effortless to see Gilbert so naturally play Darlene as her mother’s daughter. She’s got a bit of Roseanne Conner in her as we remember her from 1988, not 2018. ... Darlene isn’t Roseanne. But with Barr off the show, “The Conners” can finally be “Roseanne.”

The writing as overseen by veteran Roseanne producer Bruce Helford is sharp--the tone is very similar to the 10 years of the original Roseanne you may have watched and enjoyed.

For those on the fence, I’d say if you liked the original and its short-lived revival, this new incarnation will feel like a new--and occasionally laugh-out-loud funny--window into the lives of old friends.

The Conners skillfully picks up where "Roseanne" left off and even manages to improve on the predecessor.

What The Conners has going for it, which shouldn't be underestimated, are a couple of world-class actors in John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf as the one-time title character's husband Dan and sister Jackie.

Bravo to ABC for going on with this cast and characters. The pilot shows that there are plenty of stories still to be told. And I disagreeBravo to ABC for going on with this cast and characters. The pilot shows that there are plenty of stories still to be told. And I disagree that Roseanne's character is absent. She's still there, in every memory, in every action, in every family situation. Much like the matriarch of any family, the mark that they have on a families life is eternal. And much like a real life family, she will be felt forever. Can't wait to watch the possibilities! Expand

Worst show I've seen in my entire life. Why would they do this. What a ridiculous and insulting premise.

Terrible. Total waste of time. I don't even understand why Roseanne wasn't on the show. I thought the show was about her.

Why are people still watching this show? It's sort of like how they reboot Han Solo without Harrison Ford and people keep watching... This franchise mentality is ruining film and television.

I love Luarie Metcalf and John Goodman, but they're now reprising their roles in a reboot without the titular character of the show they're rebooting? I was pleasantly surprised Goodman was coming back to Roseanne in the first place and now I'm disappointed he's staying... I don't care about the cast and crew losing their jobs. They should've stood up for Roseanne. There are other jobs. Shows get cancelled all the time.

You can make a career out of making fun of trump. You can make fun of his skin colour, his relationship with his wife and his children. You can call him any name you want... But apparently you can't post a couple of tweets about someone - in politics - of a particular ethnicity without destroying your entire career. What a joke.
